Advocacy Tactics Choice

Lisätiedot

Explore diverse advocacy tactics that you may use to advocate youth rights or youth work field needs.

The choice of tactics usually follows after you decide on the advocacy goal, key target groups and mapped stakeholders.

This is a non-exhaustive list of possible Advocacy tactics:
  • Consultative participation - Involve youth in policy formulation processes, ensuring their perspectives are represented.
  • Public demonstrations and events - peaceful protests: organise marches or sit-ins to draw public attention to critical issues
  • Digital advocacy: Webinars and live streams- Host online events to discuss issues or Email campaigns - to send emails to decision-makers, demonstrating widespread concern.
  • Social media campaign – this is a great way to make sure your message reaches the public. Use all the same hashtags on all channels.
  • Hashtag challenge or viral trend – Encouraging young people to participate in an engaging online challenge to spread awareness.
  • (E-)Petition – the more signatures you get, the better you can show that your campaign has lots of support.
  • Request meetings – even if you can’t get face time with your targets or influencers, it’s a good idea to meet with people who are also working on your campaign issue so they know about your work.
  • Artivism (Art + Activism) – Using murals, street art, poetry, or music to creatively express advocacy messages.
  • Storytelling & personal testimonies – Sharing real-life experiences through blogs, videos, or public speaking to humanise the issue and connect with audiences emotionally.
  • Grassroots organising – Building local advocacy groups that mobilise young people and create sustained pressure on decision-makers.
  • Youth-led research & surveys – Conducting and publishing surveys or studies to provide data-driven arguments

Now analyse your advocacy goal, chosen advocacy target group and stakeholder map and choose which advocacy tactic would fit your context, team capacity, and existing resources.

Once you choose a certain tactic (it can be a combination of a few), then start building a plan of how you will implement it. Search for activity on Advocacy campaign planning on the youthworkpathways.net platform.

You may explore more information at various handbooks and websites linked to youth advocacy.
Here are a few resources to consider:
